Installed in 1982 ... graduated from Nyack H.S. in 1968 ... gained All-County recognition in both football and soccer during his athletic career with the Indians (1965-68), despite playing those two sports in the same season, the fall ... he kicked the longest field goal in school history, 44 yards ... he once held the Rockland County records for field goals in a game, field goals in a season, longest field goal, and most points by a kicker in one season ... Jakowenko was the first placekicker to be awarded a full scholarship to Syracuse University ... he made the National Football League, playing for the St. Louis Cardinals, Oakland Raiders, Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers during his pro career ... a soccer-style placekicker, he was the NFL’s fourth-leading kicker during the 1974 season while playing for the Oakland Raiders, connecting on 72 percent of his field goal attempts ... he later worked at Joe Namath’s sports camp in Connecticut, teaching kicking for football and soccer.
