Jim Faulk
Elected in 1978 ... athletic director at St. Agnes School in Sparkill, a school for orphans and other troubled children, from 1934 to 1958 ... arrived in Rockland in 1933, fresh out of the University of Alabama, and immediate-ly began enlarging the schoolís athletic program ... dubbed ìMr. Everythingî at St. Agnes ... athletic director, guidance counselor, social worker, discip-linarian, trainer, varsity and JV coach for the school’s six sports: football , basketball, baseball, track, wrestling, golf ... in his spare time, he ran a full sports program for the St. Agnes alumni ... turned down lucrative coaching offer from Villanova University to remain with the boys of St. Agnes ... reliable won-lost records of his teams were not kept, but it is estimated his teams won an average of 50 games per year, all sports combined ... over 25 years, that would amount to more than 1,200 victories ... Faulk is credited with part of the success of the great Tappan Zee teams of the ë40s and ë50s, which drew a number of his tough, well-coached players ... many of his football players went on to make All-County ... Faulk rose to the rank of colonel in the Marines during World War II, and maintained strict discipline for his charges ... his motto was, “It is better to build boys than to mend men.” ... spearheaded the drive to build a new gymnasium at St. Agnes by soliciting donations from more than 400 graduates of the school.

James "Sham"Feeney
Installed in 1988 ... Haverstraw H.S., Class of 1945 ... record-setting basketball player for Haverstraw High who also starred in football, baseball and track ... in basketball, a three-year varsity performer and two-year All-County choice ... in the 1944-45 season, he set a Rockland scholastic one-game scoring record of 37 points and a 10-game county-schedule mark of 212 points ... scored 90 points in three Section 9 Class A playoff games, another record ... tallied 427 points in 19 games that season to lead Haverstraw to the first Section 9 title in school history ... Haverstraw was crowned county champion four years straight, 1943 to ‘46, and lost just once to a county opponent in Feeney’s three years on varsity ... Feeney played three years of varsity baseball and football, earning All-County recognition in foot-ball twice and playing on two county co-championship squads ... he also pole vaulted for track team ... in CYO basketball, helped his team to the title in the Newburgh Tournament in 1944-45 ... Feeney continued to star in basket-ball from 1946 to ‘62 for local amateur teams such as the Letchworth Village Big Five and Haverstraw Knights of Columbus ... He coached junior varsity basketball for St. Peter’s School in CYO play for many years, has been the school’s CYO president, and managed and umpired in the Haverstraw Little League from 1962 to 1972 ... charter member of the North Rockland Sports Hall of Fame.

JOHN FLAHERTY
John Flaherty began his baseball career in the West Nyack Little League. As a 12-year-old John pitched eight no-hitters and averaged 17 strikeouts per game. He went on from St. Anthony’s Elementary School in Nanuet to star at St Joseph's Regional High School in Montvale. John was awarded a baseball scholarship to George Washington University, where he went on to be the star attraction of the team.

In 1988 John was drafted on the 25th round by the Boston Red Sox and after toiling in the minor leagues for four years made his professional debut with the Red Sox in 1992, playing in 35 games. During his 14-year-career John played for the Boston Red Sox, the Detroit Tigers, the San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Devil Rays and the New York Yankees.

John had an outstanding career. During that time, totaling 1,047 games, he had a batting average of .252 with 80 home runs and 395 runs batted in. John’s best season came in 1999 with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays when he hit .278 with 14 homers and 71 RBI. After that season John signed a three-year, $9 million contract. Some of the highlights of John’s career include hitting safely in 27 straight games in 1996, the second-longest hitting streak by a catcher in major league history. John also appeared in the Major League playoffs with the San Diego Padres in 1996 and in the World Series with the New York Yankees in 2003.

During his 14-year-career in the Major Leagues, John was behind the plate for some of the game’s all-time greatest pitchers. They include Roger Clemens, Fernando Valenzuela and Mariano Rivera, and he was the pers al catcher for the future Hall of Famer, Randy Johnson. His teammates

have included Rickey Henderson, Tony Gwynn, Wade Boggs, Kirk Gibson, Jose Canseco and the world-renowned New York Yankees, including Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez.

In addition to his accomplishments in the field of professional baseball, it is important to note that John Flaherty has an impeccable reputation as a gentleman, sportsman and professional. Immediately upon his retirement, John was hired by the YES Network to do baseball commentary and is currently a part of the network’s coverage for the New York Yankees. John is also an active part of the Major League Baseball Mentoring program that counsels future professional baseball players in such areas as drug awareness and financial planning.

John currently lives in Pearl River with his wife, Allyn, and their children Kristen, 9, Brian, 7, and Logan, 5. John is an active part of the Pearl River community, participating as a featured speaker in fund-raising events for the Pearl River Little League and local law enforcement groups. John also finds time to help coach his son’s T-ball team..


Dan Fortmann
Charter member, inducted in 1974 ... 1932 Pearl River H.S. alumnus ... first Rocklander to be enshrined in a professional Hall of Fame, gaining induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1966 ...during his eight-year career (1936-43) as a guard with the Chicago Bears, Fortmann was elected All-Pro six times ... he helped lead the Bears to three National Football League titles and five divisional championships ... at Pearl River, he starred in four sports, most notably football, in which he was an All-County halfback ... he graduated valedictorian of his class ... as an offensive lineman at Colgate University he earned All-East honors ... in his senior season he was chosen to four postseason all-star games, including the Senior Bowl and the East-West Shrine Game ... he earned Phi Beta Kappa honors in a rigorous pre-med curriculum ... Fortmann enrolled at Rush Medical School at the University of Chicago and played pro football to finance his medical education ... became an accomplished surgeon, serving as the chief of staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank, Calif. ... more than a thousand Rocklanders flocked to the Polo Grounds to honor Fortmann on “Danny Fortmann Night” in the late 1930s ... he died in 1995.
